The motto of our Great Britain category could be: "Hiatt is dead - long live TCH"! After more than 200 years Hiatt closed down their factory in Birmingham and ceased producing high quality restraints in 2008 - a sad fact not only for British policemen. Luckily some former Hiatt employees formed the company TCH, which stands for "Total Control Handcuffs". TCH is manufacturing the established Hiatt models almost identically. TCH handcuffs comply with "N.I.J." (US National Institute of Justice) standard 0307.01.

TCH-850, the successor of the Hiatt UL-1, are probably the only "rigid hinged handcuffs" in the world. This means that they are folding handcuffs until they are unfurled 180 degrees - then they become totally rigid. To get them in the folding mode again, you have to use the key in the centre keyhole located at the hinge (so they have a total of 3 keyholes). The restraint is made of nickel plated steel , which is partially covered by a robust plastic handle.
